Ball Spring Plunger
MS1141
The Ball Spring Plunger is a positioning element with a built-in spring and ball, often used for positioning, pressing, limiting and quick assembly. It differs from a normal plunger in that instead of a flat plunger head, it has a smooth ball at the top, which reduces friction and prevents scratches on the workpiece by means of the rotation of the ball.
Structural characteristics
Housing (Body): generally metal (carbon steel, stainless steel, etc.), usually with threads on the outside for easy installation.
Internal Spring: Provides a constant spring force to keep the ball pushed out.
Ball: Located at the top, the ball is pushed out of the housing by the spring and is used for positioning or compression. Because the ball is free to rotate, there is low friction and smooth contact.
Main functions
Positioning: Used to fix the part in a certain position and prevent slipping.
Compression: Continuous compression of the workpiece by means of spring force.
Limit: acts as a stop or limit during mechanical travel.
Quick disassembly and assembly: ball structure makes assembly smoother and reduces wear.
KEY FEATURES AND SELECTION PARAMETERS
There are several key parameters to consider when selecting a suitable Ball Spring Plunger:
Thread Size: e.g. M4, M6, 1/4‘-20, 5/16’-18, etc. This is the mounting size.
Protrusion: The maximum length of the ball head that extends out of the body.
Spring Force: Typically measured in pounds (lbs) or Newtons (N). This is the force provided by the spring as it pushes the ball head out. Spring force varies greatly from model to model, ranging from a few ounces to hundreds of pounds.
Ball Material: Stainless Steel: most commonly used, corrosion resistant and strong./Carbon Steel: High strength
